Fino Noir – Austin Playful & Unique

A drive to 34th Street Cafe gave way to a FINO detour.

Hostess issues.
Emmett to the rescue (and saved very nicely)…

Waiter.
Perfect timing and attention to detail (unusual for Austin)…

Side-Sip Complement.
2004 Hirsch Gruner Veltliner ($12 A- -2 *). Perfect with everything we ordered. Winelist is creative, hip, tasty, and complements the menu very well.

First Bites.
Fried Goat Cheese with Onion Jam and Honey. 3rd Time to have. Yum. Yum. Yum.
Seafood Risotto Cakes (Special). Waiter-recommended. Points awarded. Dinner menu has personality and is addictive. On a sidenote, bread and crackers are some of the best in town!

Second Round.
Platter of Roasted Eggplant Dip, Hummus, Tatziki of Yogurt & Cucumber with Grilled Pita. Not the normal, local bla. More points.
Cream of Finnel and Potato Soup (Special). Hit the spot.

Third Round.
Romaine Salad with Romesco Dressing
Shaved Manchego Cheese, Fried Croutons & Imported Anchovy.
Playful and unique for Austin.
Spinach & Baby Green Beans Salad with Medjool Dates
Cabrales Cheese Dressing. One of Austin’s best bleu cheese salads.

Final Round. (outside on the patio)
Espresso Pear ‘Tiramisu’
Oven Roasted Pear with Espresso Syrup, Tiramisu Blanc with Vanilla Spongecake, Mascarpone Cream & White Chocolate.
Pistachio Baklava with Pistachio IceCream. Apricot Sauce. This alone is worth the journey.

And of course, sherry…
Both desserts were perfect with the Alvear Pedro Ximénez .

  2. I didn’t have the fried anchovy-stuffed olives this round, but they are a destination treat! Even if you think you don’t like anchovies. Even if you think you don’t like olives. Even if you think you don’t like batter.
